Privacy policy
Short version: your SMS stay on your phone. SMS 42 has no account, no ads and no analytics.
What the app processes, and where
| Data | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| SMS messages | Show conversations, send and receive SMS, recognise parcels, bank messages, bills and coupons. | Stay on the device. Read from and written to the Android SMS store; recognition results are kept in the app's private storage. |
| Contacts (names only) | Show contact names instead of numbers in conversations and notifications. | Stay on the device. Looked up by phone number; never copied out. |
| Notifications | Alert you to new messages. | On the device. |
| App settings | Language, text size, pinned and blocked chats, sender groups. | On the device. |
Reports you choose to send
From a message you can open "Report or suggest a rule", and from Settings "Send feedback". The app removes personal data first: names, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, long numbers (tracking, card, account numbers and codes are replaced by other digits) and link paths. You see the result and can edit it. Only when you tap Send is it sent to our server at sms.catalog42.com, together with your description, the sender name (personal phone numbers are masked), which group and rule recognised the message, the app version and the app language. A report never includes recognised values such as amounts or codes, your phone number, contacts or any device identifier. If the server cannot be reached, the app offers to send the same text through an app you pick (e-mail, a messenger) instead.
Reports are stored in a database on Cloudflare (our hosting provider) and are read only by the SMS 42 developers, to improve recognition rules. We do not store your IP address; to stop abuse we keep a one-day hash of it, deleted after two days. Reports are deleted once they are no longer needed, and at the latest after 12 months.
Network use
- App updates. The app checks for updates of its own code and rule files (Expo updates service). The request contains the app version and platform, never messages or contacts.
- Reports go to sms.catalog42.com only when you send one (see above).
- Links in messages open in your browser only when you tap them.
- Test builds are distributed with Firebase App Distribution, which only knows the testers' e-mail addresses.
SMS 42 does not sell, share or rent data, shows no ads and contains no analytics or tracking SDKs.
Deleting your data
Everything SMS 42 keeps, apart from reports you sent, is on your phone. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, deletes its data. Your SMS remain in the Android SMS store, as with any SMS app. To delete a report you sent, write to us and include roughly when you sent it.
Children
SMS 42 is not directed at children under 13.
Changes and contact
We will update this page when the app's data handling changes and show the date below. Questions: vitaly@cooperman.co.il.
